Dance, race kick off Thanksgiving-themed events in South Lake Tahoe

A pair of Turkey-themed events will get people in the Thanksgiving spirit this weekend.

The festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday night, Nov. 20, with the Turkey Trot Dance at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center. The event includes a performance by the 17-piece Tahoe Dance Band, appetizers, desserts, beverages and door prizes. Entrance to the dance is $10 for adults are $5 for those under 21.

The senior center is located to 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

The next day, Nov. 21, the Turkey Trot Fun Run will take place at Bijou Community Park off Al Tahoe Blvd. The run includes a 5K and kids fun run.

The event begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, and participants are encouraged to dress in Thanksgiving attire. Prizes for best costume and most ridiculous costume will be awarded, and the top three finishers in each age group will also receive prizes, with the winners in each category taking home a turkey.

Registration for the run is $30 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and under.

The run is being organized by Epic Tahoe Adventures, which put on the inaugural Rock Tahoe Half Marathon, from Spooner Summit to Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, this June.
