Dance Visions team takes home awards

Dance Visions Performing Arts Center finished off their 2007 competition dance season representing Lake Tahoe in style. The team traveled to Las Vegas, competing for national honors at Dance USA and Thunderstruck Dance competitions.

Five routines at Dance USA scored high enough to re-compete in the Grand Showcase. DVPAC took one of each of the five places throughout the age divisions.

Fifth overall petite: “76 Trombones: Dismas Womack, Abigail Killibrew, Corinne Novotny, Suzie Elias, Amanda Shull, Casey Huber and Lauren George; Fourth overall teen: “Falling” Jessica Shull; Third overall junior: “Strings Gone Crazy” Dismas Womack, Casey Huber, Lauren George, Corinne and Kevin Novotny, Susie and Dino Elias, Jessica and Amanda Shull, Jillian and Ali Dauscher, Jillian Raney, Meredith Grasso, Alexis Arens, Whitney Gardner, Jenna Fragola, Sabrina Swoger, Jessica Wahl and Bailey Adams; Second overall junior: “Hallelujah” Suzie Elias; First overall teen “Steam Heat” Kevin Novotny, Ali Dauscher and Dino Elias. These dances won $1,000 cash and trophies 3 to 7 1/2 feet high.

Suzie Elias was crowned Miss Junior Dance USA and overall junior dancer, winning a scholarship to study at Broadway Dance Center in New York City. Dino Elias won the scholarship for tap. DVPAC took the top three places in Dance USA’s Model Search. They are Jessica Shull, first; Alexis Arens, second; and Amanda Shull, third.

The team also had dancers chosen to perform in the opening routine, “American Girl.” These dancers were Corinne and Kevin Novotny, Suzie Elias, Dino Ellias, Ali and Jillian Dauscher, Jillian Raney, Alexis Arens, Amanda Scull, Casey Huber and Jessica Shull.

Rounding out the DVPAC 2007 team are Dana Nott, Katherine Grasso, Kaitlin Potnick and Morgan King.

Eleven dancers competed in the Thunderstruck Nationals with seven dancers making the showcase to dance off for top honors.

First junior solo: “Painted Black” Suzie Elias; Second junior duo “Rhythm Biz” Suzie Elias and Casey Huber; First junior duo: “Think” Suzie Elias and Casey Huber; First senior solo: “Falling” Jessica Shull; Second senior duo: “Brave and Crazy” Suzie Elias and Jessica Shull; First senior duo: “Steam Heat” Kevin Novotny, Ali Dauscher and Dino Elias; Third senior small group: “Men Get Lonely” Dino Elias, Ali Dauscher, Carleigh and Jullian Raney. All these dancers, plus Corinne Novotny, Amanda Shull and Jillian Dauscher were chosen to dance in the opening routine, “Lip Gloss.”

“Steam Heat” won the highest honors of the competition with the Eye of the Storm award, which is the high score for the entire nationals.

DVAP kicks off its 2008 season this weekend by bringing in Brandy Stiles of Bakersfield as a guest choreographer.
