Dancers do well in competition

Dance Visions started off its competitive dance season with some team members traveling to San Mateo for Kids Artistic Revue. On Feb. 10 the intermediate students competed with Riana Cerceo receiving first place for her solo, “Born to the Wild,” and a top-first place for her musical theater solo, and winning 10th Overall High Score in the 13 and up division.

On Feb. 11 the secondary level competitors showed off their talents. Suzie Elias and Derek Werle won a top-first place for their duo “Tango,” receiving fifth place overall high score for secondary duet/trio 12 and under. Top-first places were also awarded to Ali Dauscher and Kevin Novotney for their duo, “My Kind of Guy” and Casey Huber and Suzie Elias for “Turn Me Loose.” First place awards for solos went to Casey Huber for “Hound Dog,” Whitney Gardner for “Dance,” Meredith Grasso for “Instant Reply” Jillian Daushcer for “H.A.P.P.Y.” and “Honeybun,” Lauren George for “Feed the Birds,” Lexi Brooks for “Phantom,” Jessica Wahl for “You Better Run,” Morgan King for “Call the Man” and Carleigh Dauscher for her tribute piece to her grandmother, “Time to Say Goodbye.” Whitney Gardner received a high-second place award for “Part of Your World.” Ali Dauscher also received a first place and 10th place overall high score in the 13-and-up division for “Buenos Aires.”

Duets awarded first place were “50s Girls” with Corrine Novotny and Lauren George, “Simply Irresistible” with Carleigh Dauscher and Morgan King, “Farewell Lullaby” with Jillian Dauscher and Lauren George and “Crazy Little Thing” with Kendal Ferris and Austin Brooks. Alexis Arens, Meredith Grasso and Jillian Raney received a first place with their trio, “Beep-Beep-Boom.” The mini-team girls earned a first-place award and received the judge’s choice Personality Plus award with “Attitude Dance.”

On Sunday, top-first place awards in the primary category went to Alexis Arens for her hip-hop solo, “Check This Out,” and Jenna Fragola for her musical theater solo, “Oklahoma Girl.” Corrine Novotny received a first-place award for her acrobatic solo, “Lion King.” In the intermediate level duet/trio category, Dino Elias and Riana Cerceo received a top-first place and third overall high score for intermediate duo/trio 13 and up. Suzie Elias and Riana Cerceo received a top-first place for their duo, “Proud Mary.”

and were first place Category Winners.

During the President’s Birthday weekend some of Dance Vision team members and students attended the Winterfest Dance Convention in Reno. Jenna Fragola received a scholarship to go to the Winterfest Convention next February.
