Dayton spoils Vikes’ volleyball home opener

Unforced errors continued to plague the South Tahoe High volleyball team in a three-game defeat to Dayton on Friday in the Vikings’ home opener.

Dayton won 25-22, 25-17, 25-15 as Jamie Darragh, Madison Foley and Kathie Arias combined for 23 kills. “They are one of the better teams around,” said STHS coach Dan McLaughlin. “We’ve made huge improvements in many areas, but our problem is still small-ball mistakes – the unforced errors.”

Drew Norberg led STHS with 11 kills and one block, while Tori Smith made four kills and three stuff blocks.

“Tori and Drew were absolutely terrific and played big-time middle block,” McLaughlin said.

Kelsey Henderson and Morgan Kaufer each contributed three kills for the Vikings.

South Tahoe, which is 1-3 in regular-season matches, plays at Incline on Thursday.
