Debate about TRPA expected to air soon

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE – Tahoe Regional Planning Agency spokeswoman Julie Regan and City Councilman Bruce Grego squared off in a debate for local television station K-MTN TV on Tuesday afternoon.

Grego has been a vocal critic of the planning agency since running for council last fall and pitched the idea of a debate with an agency representative to South Shore Morning Show host and debate moderator Brian Seavitt when they met about a month ago, Seavitt said.

The planning agency’s policies surrounding land coverage, its often laborious permitting processes, the makeup of its governing board and the effectiveness of aquatic invasive species inspections were among the topics discussed by the pair on Tuesday.

“There seems to be some agreement that things aren’t perfect, but it seems we’re headed in the right direction,” Seavitt said at the end of the discussion, which was friendly in tone.

The debate was billed as the “first of its kind” by Seavitt, who said he hopes Tuesday’s taping won’t be the last debate involving the various agencies that make decisions affecting South Shore residents.

When the hour-long debate will air wasn’t known on Tuesday, but could be as soon as today, said Michelle McKinney, a co-owner of the TV station.

More information on the debate’s air time is available by calling the K-MTN TV at (530) 541-8686.
