Del back on the ‘late-nite’ couch

Tim Parsons

Del Tha Funky Homosapien and Late Nite Billy go way back.

Late-Nite Productions has brought the hip-hop pioneer to Tahoe nearly a dozen times in the past decade.

“Some hip-hop artists have to have the best suite in the hotel,” said Billy Drewitz, who also traveled with the hip-hop star on two national tours. “Del, he’ll crash out on my couch. He’s real down to earth, cool.”

Del The Funky Homosapien takes pride in blending his style from multiple genres of music. Drewitz said he remembers the artist buying numerous CDs at the South Lake Tahoe story Mad About Music and none of them were hip-hop. They were mostly metal and funk, he said.

“I have never met anyone in my life so much into music as him,” Drewitz said.

The Richmond, Calif., rapper is constantly producing music, even when he is on the road with his portable studio.
