Nevada Tahoe Conservation District will dedicate its newly created demonstration garden to former county engineer Mahmood Azad, who died July 17.

Azad was six weeks away from retiring and turning 60, District Manager Doug Martin said in an email.

“Almost every day at the office either started or ended with a remembrance of fly fishing in Loreto, Baja, Mexico,” Martin stated. “In between, there was stormwater, the TMDL, engineering, mentoring, some philosophy and stories of family and friends.

NTCD is accepting donations to have a plaque constructed and mounted a the entrance to the garden. Any excess donations will go toward the Nevada Department of Wildlife’s Trout in the Classroom program.

The dedication will take place Aug. 23 from 5-6 p.m. at the NTCD office, 400 Doria Court in Zephyr Cove, Nev. A planting will also be part of the ceremony.

For more information, contact Martin at or 775-586-1610, ext. 22.
