Deputy to speak at potluck

The South Lake Tahoe Senior Center potluck and meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. April 6 at the senior center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Guest speaker will be Tom Deputy, optician and owner of Reflection Eyewear, where he developed one-hour service and gives a discount to seniors. He will speak on “Vision Care, Past, Present and Future.”

Deputy was born at Camden, N.J. He joined the Navy as a reservist in the 10-grade and rated as a storekeeper upon graduation. He was assigned to the USS Columbus, a heavy missile cruiser, when it was observing the Russian Navy in the European theater during the Vietnam War. He attended Bok Institute of Optical Sciences from 1970 to 1972 and developed the ability to fabricate eyeglasses. Deputy came to Lake Tahoe in 1976 with his wife, Marti, a dental hygienist. They moved to Gardnerville in 1990 to fulfill his dream of owning a horse ranch.



Deputy was president of the Voluntary Action board of directors, a member of the South Lake Tahoe Lions Club and Toastmasters. His hobbies are sailing and racquetball. He also is a professional keyboard player and singer.
