Dive accident victim’s condition improves

Rob Bhatt

Officials at Washoe Medical Center in Reno on Tuesday reported that Matt Jensen, 19, was in satisfactory condition following spinal surgery the previous evening.

Jensen injured his neck Sunday afternoon diving from the shore into Lake Tahoe at Baldwin Beach. The injury briefly paralyzed him, and he virtually drowned before he was pulled to shore and resuscitated.

Jensen graduated in 1996 from South Tahoe High School, where he was a baseball standout. He redshirted last year at Sonoma State University – practiced with the team but was not on the active roster – and hopes to play next year at Santa Rosa Community College.
