Sending Donna Vano and Nancy Ng into the halfpipe Thursday didn’t change the order of things at the USASA Nationals at Copper Mountain, Colo.
The South Shore snowboarders continued their gold-medal assault by winning their divisions. Vano won the kahuna women’s 50-59 division by nearly 15 points with her halfpipe score of 70. Zephyr Cove’s Zippy Neil joined Vano on the podium with her third-place result.
Ng claimed first in the master women’s 30-39 class, and South Shore’s Chris Brackett finished third in the men’s 30-39 division.
Four young local riders finished in the top 10 in halfpipe Thursday.
David Riegel finished sixth in the grommet boys’ 8-9 division. Joshua Brackett placed eighth and Anthony Piccinonno ninth in the ruggie boys’ 7-and-under class. Janessa Brackett was eighth and Taylor Chatwin 14th in the breaker girls’ 12-13 class. Jessica Benefiel of Stateline placed 22nd.
In the menehune boys’ 10-11 class, South Lake Tahoe’s Dustin Orr placed 26th and Lukias was 45th in boardercross. Orr also finished 45th in slopestyle and Cook was 50th.
