Douglas High grad is in Marine combat training

Pfc. Matthew W. Thomasson recently graduated from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. He is a graduate of the ROTC program at South Lake Tahoe.

Thomasson earned an extended leave, where he engaged in Marine recruiting assistance in Carson City.

Thomasson graduated from Douglas High School in 2006. After a year at Western Nevada College, he enlisted in the Marine Corps.

He presently is undergoing Marine combat training at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He will be trained as a combat engineer/heavy equipment operator at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, then attached to a reserve unit in Lathrop, Calif.

Thomasson is the son of Phil Thomasson and Patti Shoemaker, both of Gardnerville.
