Driving course for seniors scheduled

A 55 Alive/Mature Driving course has been scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 15 and 16 at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The classes are open to any senior driver at the cost of $10 and reservations must be made in advance. Two half-day sessions are required for completion of the course and no written or driving test is required. To register for the class or for more information about the program, call the senior center at 543-6094.

The 55 Alive/mature Driving Class is a refresher program that refines existing driving skills and develops safe, defensive techniques for the mature driver. Facilitated by the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, the program is sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons and conducted by trained volunteer instructors.

The class includes sessions on physical changes, interacting with traffic, accidents, prevention measures, adverse driving conditions and perception. Attendance at both of the two half-day sessions is mandatory for certification by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Each participant will receive a certificate of completion valid for three years to use as evidence in obtaining reduced auto insurance premiums from his or her insurance company.
