UPDATE: Chain requirements in effect on Lake Tahoe highways

Here’s the latest on road conditions in the Tahoe region.

UPDATE

As of 10 p.m.

California

U.S. 50

Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from 1.5 miles west of Kyburz to Meyers in El Dorado County.

Interstate 80

Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from 1 mile east of Baxter to the Nevada state line.

California Route 89

Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from Picketts Junction in Alpine County to 2.7 miles south of the junction of U.S. 50 in El Dorado County.

Is closed from Emerald Bay State Park to Bliss State Park due to snow.

Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from 5 miles north of the junction of U.S. 50 to Emerald Bay State Park.

Chains or snow tires are required from Sugar Pine State Park to Squaw Valley Road.

California Route 267

Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from Truckee to Kings Beach.

Nevada

Nevada Route 207 (Kingsbury Grade)

Chains are required, all vehicles except four-wheel-drive with snow tires, from U.S. 50 junction to the junction with Nevada Route 206 Foothill Road.

Nevada Route 431 (Mt. Rose Highway)

Chains are required, all vehicles except four-wheel-drive with snow tires, from Nevada Route 28 to Douglas Fir Drive.

Nevada Route 28

Chains are required, all vehicles except four-wheel-drive with snow tires, from U.S. 50 junction to the Secret Harbor chain up area.

U.S. 50

Chains are required, all vehicles except four-wheel-drive with snow tires, from mile post 0.0 in Douglas County to mile post 7.6 in Carson City.

UPDATE

As of 3:50 p.m.

Chain requirements have been lifted on U.S. 50 between Twin Bridges and Meyers in California, and in Douglas County and Carson City near Spooner Summit in Nevada.

Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels on California Route 267 from 5 miles south of Truckee to Kings Beach.

Chain requirements remain in effect on Interstate 80. For westbound traffic, the chain requirement has been extended from the Donner Lake interchange to 3 miles west of Kingvale.

On Nevada Route 431, chain requirements are in place from Fairview Boulevard to Douglas Fir Drive.

All other previously mentioned areas still have chain requirements in effect.

For eastbound traffic: Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from Kingvale to the Donner Lake interchange.

For westbound traffic: Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from the Donner Lake interchange to 2 miles west of Kingvale.

California Route 89

Chains are required on all vehicles except four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels from Picketts Junction in Alpine County to 2.7 miles south of the junction of U.S. 50 in El Dorado County.

California Route 267

No current traffic restrictions.

Nevada

Nevada Route 207 (Kingsbury Grade)

Chains are required, all vehicles except four-wheel-drive with snow tires, from U.S. 50 junction to the Dagget Pass chain up area.

Nevada Route 431 (Mt. Rose Highway)

Chains are required, all vehicles except four-wheel-drive with snow tires, from Nevada Route 28 to Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe.

Nevada Route 28

Chains are required, all vehicles except four-wheel-drive with snow tires, from U.S. 50 junction to the Secret Harbor chain up area.

U.S. 50

Chains are required, all vehicles except four-wheel-drive with snow tires, from Glenbrook to mile post 4.5 in Carson City.
