Drowning victim confirmed as Sun Valley man

RENO (AP) – Washoe County authorities on Monday confirmed the identity of a man swept away earlier this month by the swift cold waters of the Truckee River.

A couple found the body in the river last Tuesday near Wadsworth.

The Washoe County sheriff’s office confirmed the victim was Edward Wilt.

Authorities were awaiting toxicology results before making a determination on cause of death.

The 20-year-old Sun Valley man was last seen when he jumped into the river May 1 near Painted Rock east of Reno.

Friends said he was not a strong swimmer and panicked when he entered the water. They were unable to rescue him.

Authorities continue to warn the public that a hefty Sierra snowpack is melting and the region’s rivers are swollen with frigid, swift water.
