SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – South Shore law enforcement agencies collected nearly 350 pounds of unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day April 30.

South Lake Tahoe police collected 44.5 pounds of prescription medication, Douglas County Sheriff’s office collected 49 pounds countywide and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office collected 253.8 pounds throughout the county, according to statements.

“Getting drugs off the street, whether they’re prescription or not, is a good thing, too often unwanted prescription drugs get into the hands of those who they were not intended, sometimes resulting in a disastrous outcome,” said El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini in a statement.
