The South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club awarded the $1,500 Business Duck Race 2006 prize to Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra. The SITS “Diva Duck” nosed out the five other finalists in the last seconds of the race to become the 2006 Day in Paradise champion. The other Business Duck finalists were Heatherton Insurance, Welcome’s Auto, McGee Plumbing, Tahoe Amusement park and Guild Mortgage.

The South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club awards the $1,500 prize donation to the local youth organization of the winner’s choice. Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra decided to use the prize to provide funds to promote further educational and future career opportunities for female students at the seventh- and eighth-grade levels through their organization’s programs.

Pat Papp, a SITS member, won the $100 “Best Dressed Duck” prize for her “Cleopatpappra Duck.” She chose to donate her prize money to Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra. Other winners in the Best Dressed category were Art’s Transmission with “Pit Crew,” Most Creative; Heatherton Farmers Insurance with “Quick Quote,” first place; South Tahoe Refuse with “The Sheriff’s Back in Town,” second place; Miller’s Custom Cabinets with “Carpenter Duck,” third place; and Tahoe Daily Tribune with “Hobie Duck,” honorable mention.

Winners in the Small Duck category were Meeks Lumber, first place, $500; Jackie Cleeton, second place, $250; and Ava Stewart, third place, $100

Any duck interested in challenging the “Diva” in the next race should start training early. The 2007 Day in Paradise duck races and barbecue is scheduled June 23 at Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers. Call (530) 541-4701.
