A sky blue Ford Taurus smashed head-on into a pine tree at the 800 block of San Jose Avenue, injuring one of its passengers.
Jenial Schultz, a 23-year-old from South Lake Tahoe, hit the windshield when the car collided with a tree at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday. Paramedics took her to Barton Memorial Hospital because she cut her left hand and said she had neck and back pain.
The driver, Marie Lane Cheyanne, also a 23-year-old from South Shore, was arrested for driving under the influence. She was not injured during the accident.
The Taurus came to rest between the pine and the bumper of a new Subaru Outback. The Taurus was centimeters from hitting the Outback.
“She slid on ice and hit a tree,” said Tim Manning, a 47-year-old retiree who owns the Outback. “I was inside reading the paper about Pembroke. She didn’t touch my car … it’s only got 4,000 miles on it. I can’t believe how close it is and it didn’t touch.”
Cheyanne told police she was driving a friend’s car.
