Durango crashes into Denny’s

Axie Navas / Tahoe Daily TribuneA Dodge Durango crashed into the South Shore Denny's Thursday morning.

Three people, including two young boys, were treated for injuries after the driver of a Dodge Durango ran into the South Lake Tahoe Denny’s Thursday at 8:45 a.m.

The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to Renown Hospital in Reno for trauma care, according to a press release. The two young boys, the driver’s sons, were treated at Barton Hospital for minor injuries and released.

South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler said the man suffered some sort of seizure that caused him to steer the Dodge into the restaurant as he was driving his children to school.

Chris Arend was in the restaurant when the crash happened. He said if the vehicle hadn’t hit the column, it would have come through the window facing U.S. Highway 50.

“I didn’t see it, but I felt it … We were lucky,” Arend said.
