EAT This Week: The Loft’s Crispy Tamarind Chipotle Duck Tacos

To try and decide each week where and what to eat around the basin can be a challenge – there are so many amazing choices. In this feature we’ll dive into dishes that will surely satisfy those hunger pangs and leave you wondering where to go next.

The best thing about a tapas-style restaurant is being able to order multiple dishes that give you tastings across the menu. And the menu at the Loft has so many great options to choose from, it’s hard to decide. So, if you are contemplating a plate to share, let this week’s feature entice you to give it a spin.

Who doesn’t love tacos? Anyone who doesn’t is likely not being truthful or probably A.I. This is such a unique and flavorful option, and it all starts with the duck. It is slow-cooked confit-style (in its own fat) for about three hours before cooled and then pulled. That meat is then pan fried to order with their house-made tamarind chipotle sauce and served in a charred corn tortilla with grilled pineapple slaw and topped with micro cilantro.

To say these tacos are packed with flavor is like saying Willie Wonka makes chocolate – it’s a given. The tamarind and chipotle are a nice sweet-heat balance and when you get those charred pieces of pineapple, that juxtaposition doubles down.

The duck is rich and juicy and the citrus cuts through it perfectly. There’s also no lack of texture when it comes to the slaw and those slight pockets of char on the outside of the tortilla also lend themselves nicely to the texture department.

Each serving comes with three tacos, and I kid you not, I could eat a whole serving in under a minute and have no reservations about doing it. They are super addicting and if you’re anything like me, order one for yourself and another to share with the table.

The Loft is located at 1001 Heavenly Village Way in South Lake Tahoe. In addition to the restaurant, The Loft is also home to nightly magician shows. For more information visit them online at thelofttahoe.com or reach them via phone at 530-523-8024.
