El Dorado resident wins Emmy for ‘Deadliest Catch’

Staff report

Todd Stanley, producer for Discovery Channel TV show “Deadliest Catch” made a big catch Saturday night, capturing an Emmy for Best Cinematography after three years of nominations for a total of four nominations; two as a Producer and two for Cinematography.

The ceremony took place Saturday night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

“I was stunned and excited at the same time. Winning an award of the magnitude is a sound recognition of my work. We faced fierce competition, but managed to win,” Stanley said. “It will take a while for it to sink in. The best part was having crab boat captain Larry Hendricks as my guest; I even dragged him up on stage with us to receive the award.”

Stanley shared the award with his brother, Doug Stanley, sister-in law Rhea Meyers Stanley, both of Roseville, as well as Zac Mcfarlane and Ben Zupo both from Sacramento

“I have a great team to work with. Winning this award makes all those long miserable days of shooting on the Bering Sea worth it,” Stanley said.

2008 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards will air as a 2-hour special on E! Entertainment Television on Saturday, September 20 at 8 p.m.

Stanley is currently working on a magazine style TV show for El Dorado County called “Experience El Dorado” highlighting recreation and tourism in the county.

“We’re really excited about this new project and its goal of bringing to light the many attractions El Dorado County has to offer. I’m also looking forward to working close to home and being with my family more,” Stanley said.
