Nevada cities, counties meet at Tahoe

Douglas County will play host to the first joint conference in a decade between the organizations representing Nevada’s counties and cities starting today.

The Nevada Association of Counties and the Nevada League of Cities are holding their first joint conference since 2003 at the MontBleu in Stateline. In addition to the county, the Town of Gardnerville, the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District and the Indian Hills General Improvement District are serving as hosts.

“Ten years later, there is still a need and a desire to continue building these partnerships,” said NACO Executive Director Jeff Fontaine. “Both associations are looking forward to the opportunity to come together and reflect on the 10 years past and the future of local governments in Nevada.”

The conference will include discussions on public lands issues, finance, infrastructure, the affordable care act, senior services and social media. Speakers include;

Will Rogers impersonator and professional historian Doug Watson and humorist Meagan Johnson.

While most of the conference will be at Stateline, a golf tournament was this morning at Carson Valley Golf Course.

The president’s reception is tonight at Edgewood Country Club. The two organizations will have their banquets at the MontBleu Theatre 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Thursday’s session will include a presentation of the state’s sesquicentennial.
