Elk Grove getting tough on medical pot growers

ELK GROVE, Calif. (AP) – A city just south of the California State Capitol wants medical marijuana growers to hide their gardens.

Elk Grove is drafting an ordinance to regulate medical marijuana growers that could force pot growers to keep their crops out of sight.

The marijuana plants would have to be in a separate, secure structure behind a home and away from fence lines or indoors.

Councilman Pat Hume tells the Sacramento Bee (http://bit.ly/nPFD8n ) that there’s too much abuse and disregard for neighbors at cultivation sites.

Resident Robert Faulkner told the council on Thursday that keeps a fan in his backyard pointed at the neighbor’s house because he can’t stand the smell of the pot garden.

The City Council last week ordered the draft legislation.
