Equipment failure in Gardnerville caused power outage

An equipment failure at an NV Energy sub-station in Gardnerville caused a power outage that lasted 3 hours early Monday morning.

Power for 24,000 Liberty Energy customers in the South Lake Tahoe area was out from 12:08 a.m. to 3:29 a.m., Randy Kelly, a spokesman for Liberty Energy, said.

An NV Energy crew from Reno was called in to investigate the problem. The equipment failure caused the transmission lines from Gardnerville to South Lake Tahoe to automatically shut down for safety reasons, Kelly said.
