Three South Tahoe High wrestlers placed at the Fernley Tournament on Saturday in Fernley.

Lucas Espinoza placed fifth in the 152-pound weight class to lead the Vikings in a two-day tournament that was attended by many of the Northern 4A schools as well as top Class 3A and 2A teams.

“He’s a phenomenal athlete, has great work ethic and loves wrestling,” said STHS coach Ryan Wallace of Espinoza, a transfer from Del Oro High.

Also placing for the Vikings were Roger Ripoli and Jose Silva, who each finished sixth in their weight classes.

“Jose’s shot defense is getting pretty good, and Roger is starting to figure some things out. Roger’s been one of the strongest guys we’ve ever had and now he’s starting to figure out how to use it.”

South Tahoe wrestlers will host a dual match against Sparks at 6 p.m. Wednesday. It is the Vikings’ only home match. Wallace has also invited Incline, possibly creating a three-team dual.
