Eva B. Stewart

A funeral Mass will take place Nov. 22 for Eva B. Stewart, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends Nov. 15, 2005, in Elk Grove, Calif., at the home of her eldest son, Alex.

Mary Lou Evangelina Baeza Magana was born March 6, 1930, in Los Angeles to Francisca Magana Lemus and Francisco Cruz Baeza Salinas. Eve was orphaned when she was 3 years old by the untimely death of her mother. She lived with relatives in Los Angeles until she and her sisters, Elenore and Mildred “Cookie,” came to live with relatives in Davis, Calif. Eva lived with her cousins, Freddie, Irene, Mickie, Arthur, Fernando, Mary Lou, Hopie, Carmen, Alfred, Rosie, Loli, Henry and Connie her Tia Emerteria and Tio Eluterio’s warm and caring household.

While in Davis, Eva attended elementary and high school. She married Ralph Hernandez in 1948 and began raising her three sons. She moved to Lake Tahoe in 1957 and married Ed Leonard in 1958. She married Ken Jutner in 1967 and Bill Stewart in 1984. Eva worked in the gaming industry for more than 35 years and was appointed as one of the first female pit bosses for Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Stewart; sons, Alex, Robert and Ronald; grandchildren, Annissa, Alex, Tyler, Michael, Roxanne, Jazmin, James and Darren; great-grandchildren, Eva and Levi; daughters-in-law, Christina, Donna, Marta, Lorie; special friends, Betty Hadler, Teri Ousley and Amelia “Tudie” Pena Basinger; and too many cousins, nephews and nieces to mention.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at St. James Catholic Church, 1400 North B Street, Davis, CA. Burial will follow at the Davis Cemetery on Poleline Road.
