Event is for gardeners

Do you care about how your actions affect the beautiful and fragile ecosystems of the Tahoe Basin? Beginning and experienced gardeners can learn something new at the annual garden workshop day at the Lake Tahoe Community College Lake Tahoe Demonstration Garden, One College Drive.

Workshops are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Topics include planting a garden that attracts birds, butterflies, and bees, grasses, irrigation, and fertilizer; and how to use vegetation to satisfy BMP requirements.

Informational booths including bear-proof trash cans, BMPs, water conservation and invasive weeds as well as free giveaways and snacks will be provided before a guided garden tour that begins at 1 p.m. Plant expert Julie Etra will discuss the plants that can be found at the demonstration garden.

Many Tahoe Basin agencies came together to create this educational event.
