Explorers win competitions

Tribune

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department Explorer Post has done it again. On Jan. 26, 27 and 28 the Explorers traveled to Chandler, Ariz., to compete in the “Chandler Arizona Tactical Competition.”

Hundreds of Explorers traveled to Chandler from six of the western states and competed in a variety of competitions including Marijuana Field Raid, Hostage Negotiations, Hostage Rescue, Obstacle Course, Three Mile Run, Tactical Relay and Warrant Service. Law enforcement officers from around the country judged each competition.

This was the fourth year that the South Lake Tahoe Police Department Explorer Post has participated in this competition. Each year the post sweeps the majority of awards and this year was no exception. The Explorers brought home several trophies including top honors in a new category, “COPS” video event. In this event the Explorers as a team had a short amount of time to come up with a script, select actors and go out into the community to video tape their show. The Explorers also brought home top honors in “Tug-O-War,” Hostage Negotiations and a variety of other challenging tactical competitions.

The Explorers are proud of their trophies, but they all agree that the real reward is the sense of self-accomplishment, camaraderie, pride and being part of a great team and preparing themselves for a future career in law enforcement.
