Extra play not kind to Bighorns

BOISE, Idaho – After a double-overtime loss Monday, the Bighorns played an extra period again Wednesday, falling 92-88 to the Erie BayHawks at the D-League Showcase in Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho.

Trailing by a point at the end of regulation, Mo Charlo stole an Erie inbound pass and was fouled, making one of two free thwrows to send the game to overtime. However, Erie outscored Reno 12-8 in the extra frame, handing Reno its second straight overtime loss and fifth straight loss overall.

Desmon Farmer paced Reno with a 20-point, nine-rebound effort, but only two other Bighorns scored in double figures as Reno was held to its lowest offensive output of the season. Russell Robinson chipped in 16 points and Charlo paced Reno with a team-high 10 rebounds.

But the story of the game was Erie’s Alade Aminu, who dominated with a game-high 30-point, 23-rebound effort. Reno had no answer for the 6-10 forward from Georgia Tech, who shot 12 for 20 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the free throw stripe.

The Bighorns continue their week-long road trip this weekend in Utah and Albuquerque, before returning home on Jan. 12 to tangle with the Utah Flash.
