Families commission gets new member

The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors appointed Joyce DeWitt to the Children and Families Commission to represent District 5.

Dave Solaro was originally chosen as the District 5 representative. He endorsed DeWitt as his replacement.

The CFC was formed to allocate the funds from Proposition 10, which passed in 1998, placed a 10-cent tax on each pack of cigarettes to fund health programs for children five years old and younger. The proposition is expected to provide the county with $1.7 million annually.

The Commission has nine members countywide who were appointed by the California State Legislature. Five members represent the five county districts. The other four represent health and education interests throughout the county.
