Family Resource Center gets set for Cinco de Mayo
Provided to the Tribune
Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner, a special day that the entire community can celebrate. The South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center has been serving low-income members of the community for many years, with a large number being of Latino descent. To celebrate these years of service, and to help fund a great many more, the center has organized its first Cinco de Mayo celebration. The event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. May 3 at the Edgewood Tahoe. Tickets are just $20 each.
La Taberna, Los Mexicanos, Chevys Fresh Mex, Taco Taqueria and The Cantina are providing all the food. Soft drinks, beer, margaritas and wine will be available. There will be a “salsa taste-off” between the different restaurants in town to finally determine which restaurant serves the best salsa. Entertainment includes a mariachi band, salsa dancing with Jorge Orozco, a Ballet Folklorico of local youth, and much more.
Raffle tickets are available for a chance to win a one-week trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, or other great prizes including a season pass to Sierra-at-Tahoe snowsports area. Raffle tickers are available for $5 each and at a special price of $20 for five tickets. It will be a great evening, one the entire family can enjoy.
Proceeds will be used to support the many programs the Family Resource Center offers – all of which will benefit children and families of the community. The center is funded by public agencies and grants. The demand for its services continues to grow, while the available funding is being reduced. By sharing in this night of celebration participants will help ensure the Family Resource Center continues to be able to provide the services that make a difference for so many families in the community.
