Family Resource Center prepares for holidays
The most wonderful time of the year has come again, and as always, it’s a busy time for the South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center. Every year, members of our community like you make a wonderful Christmas for so many. The FRC works together with a number of other area agencies to provide not only gifts, but food, clothing and other basic-needs supplies to families in need throughout our community.
The Family Resource Center has survived and become an institution in this community because of the efforts of generous and dedicated individuals that strive to make sure that there is a holiday in every household during this season. If you are interested in making a difference and joining in on the fun, there are plenty of opportunities from which to choose:
— Christmas Dinners: Through generous support from the local Safeway stores, the Family Resource Center purchases dinners for families in need for about $35 to $45 per family.
— The Gift Basket Program: Instead of providing the family with Christmas presents alone, the Family Resource Center provides a basic-needs basket that includes household necessities such as laundry detergent, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, bathroom tissue and many other items. These are items that we all need and take for granted, unless you can’t afford them.
— Family Adoption: As our longest-running Christmas tradition, you can adopt a family of any size and personally pick out the presents for the children of the household. Families eligible for this program generally are large or single-parent homes. We will provide information on the gender, age and gift suggestions as given by the families themselves. Gifts should be wrapped and delivered to the Family Resource Center by Dec. 14, or if you would like to meet your family, please contact the FRC to set up a meeting.
The Family Resource Center also accepts cash donations, which are spread out among all the programs that were just listed. Contact the FRC at (530) 542-0740 if you have any questions and to sign up for these programs.
As always, the Family Resource Center and our families appreciate the ongoing support of our community.
