Fifteen citations issued during neighborhood traffic effort

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – South Lake Tahoe police made 41 traffic stops in the Bijou area late last week as part of an ongoing traffic enforcement effort.
Between June 23 and 25, police stopped 16 vehicles for stop sign violations, 16 vehicles for speed-related violations and nine for other violations, Sgt. Shannon Laney said in a statement.
Police issued 15 citations and 26 written warnings as a result of the stops. And, “at least one vehicle was impounded due to the driver being cited for a third time for not having a driver’s license,” Laney said.
He thanked those who contacted police regarding the program, which began earlier this month.
“I personally had several residents approach me and thank me for working in the neighborhood, including an invitation to use their own driveways to park our patrol cars,” Laney said.
Because of the traffic problems in the Bijou neighborhood, officers plan to return there this week for additional enforcement efforts.
