Fight during Bay to Breakers race ends in death

Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco police are looking for witnesses who may have seen or recorded a fight during Bay to Breakers Race on May 20 because a man punched during the confrontation has died.

Stephen Martin of Santa Clara died Friday after he was taken off life support following three weeks in a coma. Friends told KTVU-TV ( ) he had been wearing a green troll wig and was arguing with a group of people in 49ers jerseys. Then he was sucker punched and fell, hitting his head on the curb.

Police told KTVU on Sunday that evidence could be sitting in a photo or video on someone’s cell phone, so they issued a call for help.

Anyone who finds something should call police.
