Final tally is in: Green wins school board seat

The outcome of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Trustee election will remain the same as reported last week with challengers Larry Green and Michael Doyle and incumbent Sue Novasel winning the contested seats on the board.

Incumbent Barbara Bannar was ahead of Green according to results available the day after the election. But Green moved ahead of Bannar by three votes when offical election results were released.

El Dorado County Registrar of Voters William Schultz said in a press release that he did not certify the election until a 100 percent manual count was completed.

The current state law only requires a 1 percent manual count to certify the results. Schultz chose to manually count all the votes because of the close race between Green and Bannar. Next year, the law will require a 10 percent manual count.

Bannar said she will not ask for a recount because she feels confident with the numbers. She said Schultz already did everything she would have asked him to do.

The manual count breaks down all the votes and people are encouraged to view the results on the El Dorado County Elections Web site at For other questions, call (530) 621-7480.
