Fire at Fallen Leaf under investigation
July 27, 2009
A small fire that broke out Monday evening near Fallen Leaf Road was quickly extinguished, and investigators are working to determine its cause.
The fire was reported about 6:10 p.m. and was about 200 feet off Fallen Leaf Road, approximately 2 1/2 miles down the road from Highway 89. It grew to about 50-by-50 feet before firefighters extinguished it around 6:40 p.m., said Josh Kimball, seasonal firefighter with the Fallen Leaf Fire Department.
The fire burned in a wooded area with “light fuels,” Kimball said.
Five engines and a battalion chief responded to the blaze, including personnel from the Fallen Leaf Fire Department, Cal Fire, U.S. Forest Service and South Lake Tahoe Fire Department.
The fire’s cause is being investigated by the U.S. Forest Service, Kimball said.
