Fire at Silver Shadows Lodge

by Gregory Crofton, Tahoe Daily Tribune

Smoke seeped from the attic of a motel at the 1200 block of Emerald Bay Road Sunday afternoon.

At least six units at Silver Shadows Lodge sustained damage with only one person treated as a result of smoke inhalation. A motel manager first spotted smoke coming from an attic at about 3:20 p.m.

South Lake Tahoe firefighters ripped into the attic while several residents carted belongings from the section of the motel affected by the hidden fire.

“I don’t know what happened,” said Karen Silva, as she filled the back of a pickup with possessions. “I was sitting there watching TV and I started smelling smoke … we’re taking out everything. We just moved here Thursday from Tracy (Calif.)”

The fire department was still investigating the cause of the fire Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
