Fire burns Kingsbury Grade house

An early morning fire extensively damaged a home on Kingsbury Grade Monday. No one was hurt.

Tahoe-Douglas firefighters said it appears the fire began on a rear deck, but could not determine an exact cause. The blaze destroyed a storage shed and nearly half of the two-story home.

The owner of the home was awakened by the noise. Firefighters said the man thought someone was breaking into his house until he saw the red glow through an upstairs bathroom window. By the time he got downstairs, fire was overtaking the living room.

Investigators said repairs could run as high as $200,000 for the home and its contents. Four Tahoe-Douglas fire engines were called around 6:30 a.m.

During the fire, South Lake Tahoe and East Fork Fire Protection Districts were called to back up the Tahoe-Douglas District in case of another fire.
