Fire-safe council to host block parties

Adam Jensen

The Nevada Fire Safe Council will host a series of “conservation block parties” in the coming weeks and months.

The events will help homeowners understand how to make their properties more fire safe and implement best management practices.

Other topics will include urban lots and conservation landscaping, such as native plants and water conservation.

Council representatives also will be available at the block parties to help homeowners determine how to fund their defensible-space projects.

A North Upper Truckee conservation block party will be held at 10 a.m. June 7 at 561 Seneca Drive. The event will include free barbecue and a demonstration event.

Other block parties will be held June 28 at 2495 Del Norte St., July 26 at Dundee Circle and Aug. 23 on Mountain Drive.

“Conservation evenings” – condensed block parties – will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Getaway Cafe in Meyers, June 11 at Sierra House Elementary School and June 26 at the Lake Tahoe Community College demonstration garden.
