Fire safe group is hosting picnic

Round Hill’s Fire Safe Chapter is planning a “Chippers and Salsa” fire safe day and picnic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20.

The Nevada Fire Safe Council, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, and the Nevada Tahoe Conservation District will discuss how to create defensible space around your home. Topics will include fuel reduction, structure fire safety and how defensible space will work with BMPs. Following the presentations, there will be time for questions and a hands-on demonstration of good landscaping practices.

The event will be held outdoors at 5 Ute Court in Round Hill. Participants should dress for the day’s weather and bring their own gloves and tools, such as rakes, shovels, handsaws and nippers. Round Hill residents who are interested in the fire safe chapter are invited to the neighborhood picnic.

Pine needles and cones can be bagged and up to six additional six bags or cans (not weighing over 30 pounds each) included in the Spring Cleanup Day provided by South Tahoe Refuse on May 24. Branches and brush can be placed at the edge of the property any time before June 20. The Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District will provide a chipper and will pick up and chip these materials.
