Fire scorches 1/3 acre, is under investigation

A fire Sunday afternoon consumed about 1/3 of an acre in a heavily forested area off of Sierra Boulevard and Barbara Street outside the South Lake Tahoe city limits.

The fire was reported at about 3 p.m. When fire crews located the fire after about a 10 minute search it was quickly doused without spreading too much, said Jeff Michael, Lake Valley Fire Protection District chief.

The area of the fire was in dense forest and brush. It is under investigation by the U.S. Forest Service, Michael said.

“It’s not a camping area. It’s all pretty well forested and no streams running through there so there’s no real reason for anybody to be out there,” he said.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service also responded to the scene.
