The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2627 recently honored local firefighters and police officers at its annual awards ceremony and dinner.

Recipients of the VFW Law Enforcement Gold Medal Award are Officer Mark Flores, California Highway Patrol; Detective Troy Wright, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office; and Officer Johnny Poland, South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

The recipient of the VFW Outstanding Paramedic Gold Medal Award is Firefighter/Paramedic Marty Creel, South Lake Tahoe Fire Department.

The recipient of the VFW Outstanding Fireman Gold Medal Award is Dan Sullivan, South Lake Tahoe Fire Department.

The runners-up and recipients of a Certificate of Appreciation are Steven Gwaltney and Phillip Stacy, California Highway Patrol; Damian Frisby, Mike Sukau, Victor Deleon, Mike Delacour and Matt Underhill, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office; Ross Molesworth, Shannon Laney, Rebecca Inman and Leona Allen, South Lake Tahoe Police Department; and Steve Monday, Karl Koeppen, John Hartzell and Jim Drennan, South Lake Tahoe Fire Department.

“Congratulations to all the nominees and thank you for your service to our community. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2627 is honored to recognize each of you for your dedication to our community,” said Richard Hughes, commander of VFW Post 2627.
