Firefighters to host annual ball

staff

The Lake Valley Volunteer Firefighter’s Association is preparing for its 50th Annual Firefighter’s Ball, which will be held Friday at the MontBleu Grand Ballroom.

The first ball was held Feb. 4, 1961, and was initiated by the Lake Valley Ladies Auxiliary to help raise money for training and equipment for the district. This year marks the 50th annual event because, in 1964, the ball was canceled after part of the American Legion Hall collapsed under the show load.

Proceeds from past events have benefited the district and the community by helping purchase equipment for firefighters, as well as allowing Lake Valley personnel to provide community CPR classes and scholarships for South Tahoe High School students to attend the Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy.

The ball will be held at 8 p.m. at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, 55 Highway 50. Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door and can be purchased at Lake Valley Fire Station No. 6, located at Golden Bear and Pioneer Trail; Station No. 7, located at 2211 Keetak St. in Meyers; or at Raley’s or Lira’s Market. Guests must be 21 or older to attend.
