Firewood permits available Monday

The U.S. Forest Service plans to sell firewood permits from May 10 through Oct. 15. Firewood areas are expected to open in June, when soil conditions are dry.

The permits will cost $40 for two cords of wood, and additional cords can be purchased for $20 each. Households may purchase up to 10 cords a year.

The permits will be available at the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit Office, 870 Emerald Bay Road. They can be purchased from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during May, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. starting in June.

Additional information about the firewood permits, fire restrictions and open firewood areas is available on the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit’s Web site, http://www.fs.us/r5/laketahoe/visitor_center/firewood, or by calling (530) 573-2600.
