Fireworks illegal at Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Area firefighters are reminding members of the public that the sale, possession or discharge of all fireworks, including “Safe and Sane” varieties, are prohibited in all portions of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

“Even though the Tahoe Basin experienced significant precipitation over the winter, the chances of a damaging wildland fire from illegal fireworks is extreme,” according to a statement from South Lake Tahoe Fire Department.

People can be cited for using fireworks in the basin and can also be held liable for the cost of fighting any fires that you or your children start, according to the statement.
