Firms may help find next LTUSD superintendent

William Ferchland

A discussion on the search for a superintendent, parcel tax election and calendar for 2005-06 budget will be taken today during a Lake Tahoe Unified School District board meeting at 6 p.m. at the district office.

Board members Wendy David and Sue Novasel will discuss the search process for a permanent replacement for Interim Superintendent Lorraine Garcy.

The two are expected to recommend a professional firm to search throughout California for candidates both inside and outside the district, allow three firms to make presentations during a Jan. 11 board meeting and select a firm at the end of January.

The two suggested having a new superintendent ready to begin by May.

In addition, the board will discuss the implementation for a parcel tax on a ballot next year. A parcel tax election in March was abandoned after considerable discussion to allow a public survey to take place.

Also, the budget calendar for next year will be presented.

Other agenda items include:

— A request by Pamela Singer to review the charter for the proposed Lake Tahoe Community Academy. A binder containing the budget, policies, special education services agreement and other items of the proposed charter school is available for review at the district.

— Disclosure of the South Tahoe Educators Association and California School Employees Association collective bargaining agreement.
