Five hurt in head-on collision

A two car head-on collision on Highway 50 at Cave Rock sent five people to the hospital on Thursday and closed the slick highway for roughly two hours, authorities said.

Identities of the injured weren’t available at press time. Two with critical injuries were transported by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center in Reno and three were taken by ambulance to Barton Memorial Hospital.

The accident occurred at 10:57 a.m., when a 1993 Ford Explorer and a 1996 Toyota collided.

– Early Thursday morning a second burglary in as many nights at the Tahoe Valley Pharmacy led authorities to follow footprints in the snow to a residence on Tata Lane, a South Lake Tahoe police officer said.

Stolen prescription drugs were not found on people inside the residence, but a 19-year-old who had an M-80 was arrested on possession of an explosive device. A juvenile was also arrested on a possession of methamphetamine charge.

In both burglaries a glass door was smashed.

– A 33-year-old Sausalito man was arrested on robbery and violation of parole charges when he grabbed his girlfriend’s purse and took $200, a South Lake Tahoe police officer said.

– Two harmonicas worth about $1,000 were reported missing when the 45-year-old owner gave them to Harrah’s Lake Tahoe officials to have them signed by Bruce Willis, who was playing at the casino with his band The Accelerators.

– Thirty-five bottles of perfume worth more than $700 were reported stolen Tuesday from the Fragrance Outlet at 2016 Lake Tahoe Blvd. A man walking in and out of the store is a suspect. He was described as a white male, between 45- and 50-years-old, about 5-feet-11 and weighing 150 pounds. He was wearing a dark green jacket, blue jeans and a dark beanie hat.
