Food gets picked up with garbage

South Tahoe Refuse Company, Inc., invites the community to join them in making the holidays a little brighter this year. South Tahoe Refuse residential customers in California and Nevada are asked to set out nonperishable foods in a big bag next to their trash can on their regular collection day through Dec. 13. The good will be collected by marked STR trucks and distributed through community programs.

Donations may also be dropped off at the South Tahoe Refuse Office, 2140 Ruth Ave. For more information call (530) 542-8366.

Last year more than 3,000 pounds of food items were distributed through Christmas Cheer, South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center, Sierra Recovery Center and Tahoe Community Church.
