For hair there’s Just Kuts

Susan Wood

While a barbershop may be the last place one might expect to see three bright, young women clipping hair, that’s exactly what you’ll find at Just Kuts.

The new shop, off Lake Tahoe Boulevard in the Kings Trading Post center, was opened last month by Sarah Jenkins, Rachael Huber and Jesse Henderson, a trio of high-speed clippers who honed their skills at The Local’s Choice, where they worked together.

This time, they’ve split expenses and proceeds at the 540-square-foot space across from Overland Meat and the Turn 3 bar. Wave Lengths, another hair salon, was located in the spot, but there are some distinct differences.

Just Kuts is what one gets, as the three hair stylists decided to do just that, for $10 per haircut.

Their goal is 60 people a day, an objective they’ve met on occasion with confidence.

“We’re capable of doing 30 (each) a day,” Jenkins said. “Ninety people — we’ll see what happens.” That’s the point when they’ll need to hire.

Although they’re quick, the three hair cutters said they’d never compromise quality. At times, they’re even called on for amazing feats.

Jenkins recalled how one customer asked for a complete departure from her current hairdo.

“We get it as close as we can,” she said.

Just Kuts is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those interested in a haircut on Saturday are urged to call for hours at (530) 544-5887.
