Forecasters say tornado touched down near Stockton

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – The National Weather Service says a tornado has touched down a few miles outside of Stockton.

Meteorologist Johnny Powell says the tornado tipped over an empty tractor trailer and destroyed a shed after touching down around 1 p.m. Wednesday about six miles south of Stockton, or about four miles west of the community of French Camp.

Powell says wind speeds from the tornado were estimated to be around 90 miles per hour.

No injuries were reported.

Forecasters say the unsettled weather pattern associated with the tornado also brought hail and thunderstorms to the region.

The weather system is also expected to bring snow showers to the Sierra Nevada Wednesday night, with moderate to heavy snow expected to fall Thursday and Friday.
