Former Reno attorney missing
SACRAMENTO — A former Reno attorney has been missing since September, say his children. But his wife, who packed up and disappeared just as authorities began to investigate, told friends she last saw him in January, according to authorities.
Larry McNabney, 53, a horse enthusiast, was last seen Sept. 10, 2001, at a Los Angeles horse show by friends, said Sharon Chow, spokeswoman for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
McNabney was first licensed by the State Bar of Nevada in 1975. His license is currently inactive, according to the bar association.
In 1979 he unsuccessfully defended a Reno man in the murder of a Washoe County judge’s son.
Sacramento authorities say McNabney’s two grown children reported him missing in late January. When detectives tried to contact his wife, Elisa, they discovered she’d closed down McNabney’s law office there and moved out of state, possibly to Arizona, Chow said.
“No one has heard from or seen him since September, other than his wife who said she last saw him Jan. 11,” Chow said. “(McNabney) would talk to his son quite often and to miss the holidays with his family without even a phone call is not normal for him.
“He’s just disappeared, totally.”
Chow said McNabney’s law firm continued functioning during his absence until mid-January when his wife closed the business and left the area.
Chow said detectives have been monitoring McNabney’s checking accounts and have seen no activity in recent months.
Detectives are also looking for McNabney’s 35-year-old wife, Chow said, but she is not a suspect.
McNabney is described as 6-feet tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo of a barbed-wire strand around his left bicep. His last known address was in the San Joaquin area and his law practice was on Howe Avenue in Sacramento.
Elisa McNabney is described as 5-feet 9-inches tall, 135 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen driving a red and tan 2001 Jaguar XK8 with an American flag emblem on the license plate frame.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of either McNabney is asked to call the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department at 916-775-5115.
